  What an amazing experience at JAG, great art pieces but I feel the place is not advertised too much because during my high school years we never went there....what a nice place to visit....

  The Johannesburg Art Gallery is an art gallery in Joubert Park in the central business district of Johannesburg, South Africa. It is the largest gallery on the continent. As a major focus of urban regeneration programmes, the gallery provides the base for the Joubert Park Public Art Project and is developing links with awareness groups and community centres based in the surrounding urban area. You need to be extra careful and safe around this area as it’s within a very busy and crowded place, be extra careful with your belongings and gadgets.

  The gallery is currently showing "The Art of Comics" featuring a historic and contemporary look at the work of artists from South Africa, the broader continent, France, Reunion island and more. There's also a wonderful Virtual Reality animation of the Rivonia Trials were Walter Sisulu and Nelson Mandela were sentence to life imprisonment on Robben Island. The exhibition is on until 18 November 2019 and is definitely worth checking out (as an adult. Kids optional ☺️). Beyond the exhibition, this is one of my favourite places in Jozi. I used to work as an accountant not far from here and, used to come eat my lunch in the gallery courtyard. It's a creative oasis within a neighbourhood that's emblematic of some the country's challenges.

  The gallery is very spacious. It’s not so far from the CBD, Noord taxi rank to be exact. There are very few outlets surrounding the gallery and for someone who is not a Joburg resident, the area around the gallery was intimidating to me. However, the collection in the gallery calmed me.

  Great place very big and spacious with great arty pieces on display, very organized and the best thing of all it's that it's open on Sundays and entrance is free
