::In all my years of travels to many countries around the globe, this has been the worst experience yet at any embassy. It is so unprofessional & inefficient, you actually wonder if they actually want people to visit their country. I tried for weeks on end to book an appointment, they don't answer phones or emails at all. I eventually had to use a visa service courier (I used Swiftline Visas, please don't use them as they are just as bad), to book the appointment. The staff at the visa office are not the most pleasant to deal with and make it seem like they are doing you a favour for something that you are paying for in order to visit their country to contribute to tourism. Eventually did get my appointment & visa issued 3 weeks later, but not a pleasant experience. I would recommend to anyone who wishes to travel there to use a reputable visa service to book your appointment & assist with all the paperwork, & do this well in advance of the dates you wish to travel, like months before, as it will take you that long to get an appointment. Hope this helps...

::The Hungarian Embassy in Pretoria is unprofessional and incompetent - it took more than four months to book an appointment for my visa application as they do not answer their phones or respond to emails, and it took more than three months for it to be processed (two days before my intended date of arrival in Budapest), only for it to be rejected without reason. I paid for my airfare and a deposit on accommodation for nothing, losing over twenty-thousand Rand! Throughout the process I was met with hostility and disrespect as they presumed that I was a Muslim (not that it should matter). When collecting my passport, I was told by a female employee at the reception that "I should have more f****** respect" as I asked for my passport after waiting for more than forty-five minutes, she also told me to "apologize for bothering us" [the embassy] because I called the previous day asking if my passport was ready for collection. I highly recommend and advise those looking to travel to Europe to apply through another Schengen member state.

::I recently discovered that my 3 year old daughter drew on my Hungarian visa just two days before I had to depart for Budapest (entirely my fault for not looking after my passport better). I immediately reached out to the consulate in Pretoria with very little hope of salvaging my Visa but to my utter amazement the team at the consulate managed to cancel my old visa and issue a new visa in only 24 hours (made possible in part because my old case file was still open). It would have been so easy and reasonable to state that nothing could be done but the team never the less reached out to the ministry in Hungary, cancelled my damaged visa and issues a new visa all in only one day! Thank you for the fantastic service without which my visit would not have been possible!

::Ineffective and unfriendly I have been there a few times, the workflow is slow and unpredictable. They don't pick up the phones, or if they do they tend to hang up on you if they feel like it. Disappointing.

::Initially it was difficult to get hold of the embassy and frustrating.....When I got there physically...I understood....Agnes runs the whole place..... Thank you Agnes for your wonderful help......You are indeed an asset to the embassy. You are a very lovely and compassionate person
