I tried booking a car with Britz and when my husband would call the car would be available. When he filled the papers to book the car and email 15 min later it was no longer available. Okay that’s fine, it happened over 3 times as we tried to book a different car. Their receptionist is very god answers all questions but on car availability they need to improve the communication between their departments. We ended up going to another car rental, and as a future customer I hope they get better.

We rent a 4X4 with 2 tents for 3 weeks from Windhoek in Namibia. The overall experience with the 4X4 rental was good. Make sure you take the full coverage insurance, so as soon as you have any problem with the car, they will help you deal with it. However, the customer service at the drop in and drop off was terrible and this is the only reason they get 4 stars. Otherwise they would get 5 stars for sure. The staff was not cordial at all.

We were going back and forth on renting an equipped 4x4 vs a normal vehicle, and Britz was one of the companies we contacted that could handle both. Ultimately, we opted for an unequipped car, and embarked on a 3.5 wk rental Aug-Sept 2019. At every corner, Britz surprised us. For one thing, their email communications were prompt, pricing was reasonable for what they offer, and the whole process of reservation was very smooth. Then, when the actual journey started, our arrival was 9 hours late thanks to a late train from the Cape. The folks at Britz not only were gracious about the changed pick-up time, they put us up for free in their gorgeous guest house on the property. For free!!! I couldn't believe the level of service. Our car was in decent shape. Slightly worn tires, but otherwise nothing we could find wrong with it. We put a lot of dusty kms on it (SA/eSwatini/Zimbabwe/Zambia/Botswana). It was wonderful knowing that if we ran into any trouble, help was only a phone call away. We scraped up one of our bumpers backing into a tree, and we expected to pay for it, naturally. But their charges were very reasonable, way better than US rental companies (I believe it worked out to $35??) My only suggestions to Britz would be in regards to rentals that they know are going to be doing a lot of border crossings. We had informed them of our intentions at reservation, but we still ended up sitting around for an hour on the morning of pick-up while they scrambled to get the appropriate bank letter for border crossings lined up. Also, since each border has its own fees/regulations/processes, it would be AMAZING if they would provide a several page handout with the car rental of what to expect, provide, and pay at the borders you're expected to cross. We managed, thanks to having done a plethora of African border crossings 20 years ago, but a cheat sheet or a manual of some sort would have been invaluable. Overall, two thumbs up and big smiles from a group of happy customers!

I don't want to be one of those guys who give one star and start complaining about minor things or not giving any solid argument at all so I will try to synthesize the highlights so you can freely decide if you want to risk your holidays with this low cost company as I did. I asked for a FORD RANGER full equipe. (tents, GPS, etc...). We were 3 friends and our trip was from JHB to Vic Falls. (round trip) - DAY 1: NO ford ranger, so they gave us a HILUX. That's ok, no complaints about that. GPS not working, they brought a 2nd one (still not working and they insisted it was due to the area bad satellital connection). At that moment I thought, if there was bad connection at 15 km to JHB, how the hell it is supposed to work in the middle of nowhere, like Makgadigadi and the pans (Bostwana). Anyways, I trusted them and decided to start my trip. After getting into the highway the steering wheel had huge vibrations, and I mean HUUGEEE VIBRATIONS, it was shaking enough to do a perfect long island. There was no way to drive over 60 km/h. They asked us to lose our first day of trip and going to a garage to repair it and they'd pay for it when we come back. After doing that it was late to leave JHB so we postponed the trip for one day. - DAY 2: We started our trip, GPS still not working. We had downloaded offline maps of google maps (just in case) so we continued. - DAY 3: We did our first shopping in Gaborone (Bostawana). We bought meat for braii, drinks and so on. Put everything in the fridge. Ready for adventure. That same night we got couple of beers from the fridge and not cold at all. - DAYS 4, 5, 6...10: We confirmed the FRIDGE DID NOT WORK and all our food spoiled. Due to our lack of GPS, we followed google maps indications and it lead us into the least transit paths ever. We got stacked in the sand several times, had to dig to get the car out at 40 degrees and nothing cold to drink. Approximated time digging: over 4 hours. Once we made it to our camping at night, delicious can of spagheti for dinner. (please note the irony). All campers having great BBQ and cold beers. Meanwhile, we were having some chips, a can of spagheti and hot water. - END OF THE TRIP: After days of complaints and dialogues with the company. They offered to pay for the repairment of the car and to give us one of the days of the rental for free. Please note, we already lost the first day repairing the car. They didn't pay for the food, they didn't pay for the GPS, they didn't care at all for all the inconveniences caused by the absence of GPS or the fridge. MY ADVICE: this trip is once in a life-time, and the memories you can get out of this trip are much more important than saving a few bucks. Go safe a choose a more reliable company. PD: I have more photos and videos in case you are still hesitating. Feel welcome to contact me and I will give more details regarding our experience.
