::The online booking and picking up of the car was a really good experience. The staff are friendly. The rental prices are reasonable and affordable. Unfortunately the car was not properly clean when I picked it up, but nothing that will hinder me to use the car. The trouble comes when they have to release the hold they put they put on your credit card after you returned the car. They say it will be released within 7 days. On the 8th day it was still not released. When you phone the national number they continue to put you on hold and don't get back to you. I had to go to the Pretoria branch to get it sorted. Only when I was in the branch, they started the process to lift the hold While I was picking up the rental, another customer had exactly the same issue and they assured me that it is just a fluke. I would give them a 4 star rating if the hold wasn't a problem. If you are looking for a rental company that has reasonable prices and you can live/ deal with the bad after care services that doesn't release the hold, this is the place to go. Edit I have changed my rating from 3 stars to 1 star Upon investigation, Thrifty realised they didn't place a hold on my card but deducted the money. They decided not to directly refund the money, but to do a card machine reversal, which they said will take 1-3 days to reflect. 3 days later still no money.

::Be very careful when renting from this location. Similar to problems I've had in the past with Hertz in South Africa but not with Avis/Budget or Europcar: I was overbilled. To overcome this, I was made to use the dispute process with my credit card. Pattern was very similar: 1.) car was rented and condition and fuel are same as when rented. I keep records in video/photos of rental condition and proof of refuelling for my km's driven. 2.) upon rental return, no receipt is provided to me as to condition of vehicle upon return but I'm promised to receive a receipt within 2 days by the Thrifty rep. 3.) Receipt never arrives within 2 days in spite of repeated email requests. 4.) I see extra charges to card. In this case charges were 33% higher than what I expected. So, I have immediately filed dispute with my credit card company. If you choose to rent from this location, definitely use a credit card, not a debit card because it will take much longer to get any billing disputes resolved.

::A negative experience on all fronts. Took about an hour to rent the car out, when there was only one other client in line in front of us. Both me and a friend rented a car from them, it's been over a month and neither of us have gotten our deposit back (mine was R9,000 as I used a debit card). Take my advice and pay a little extra for a company that won't screw you around. The amount of time I've wasted chasing these guys has cost me far far more. Update 23/01/2020: After about two months I finally got a portion of my deposit back. It seems they had 'accidentally' charged me over R10,000 due to damages, even though I had the super cover insurance. Had I not chased them like a mad man, they would have happily taken my full deposit. Not sure if this is some sneaky company policy to make a little bit of extra profit. Currently I am trying to find out why they took over R750 off the deposit they returned to me (above the R3,000 excess). For some reason they think it's okay to charge their clients without sending any invoice whatsoever.

::I WANT MY DEPOSIT!!!!! I have been sent from pillar to post regarding getting my deposit back since October. No one is helping me in this regard. I can not just give away money like it grows on trees. It's December now, where is my deposit?

::Thrifty Dollar Company in Tambo Int Airport, Johannesburg, South Africa continue to charge my card from time to time after we returned car without any damage and doesn’t answer why they’re doing this. The only answer we got was that agent will answer us. The agent Around About Cars who booked for us car with Thrifty answered they couldn’t help and we should contact Thrifty. Which means nobody answers why money continue to disappear from my account, they just sending me one to another. That is the story. On 29 Aug we took car in the Airport with Thrifty Dollar and paid the amount stated in the agreement - ZAR10905 (around 760$). On 17 Sep we returned car and received signed by their staff vehicle inspection sheet that car had no any damage. We relaxed and forgot. But then they started to charge my card from time to time: on 26 Sep ZAR327,88 (23$), on 2 Oct ZAR 12584,4 (873$), on 18 Oct ZAR 650 (45$). I have a lot of questions to Thrifty Dollar: - Why to get an answer I have to write dozens emails? - Why you continue to charge my card without providing any documents or even explanations? - Will you continue to charge my card every 2 weeks till the end of my life? - Will I get any day any documents proofing additional charges in the amount of almost 1000USD? For me that’s unbelievable that’s such a huge car rental company as Dollar Thrifty works like Cheater: no answers messages, steals money from card (and this is Theft because I’ve got no explanation of any of charges). I would never recommend this 2 companies (Around About Cars and Thrifty Dollar) to any of my friends. Fraud! I write this just to let know that this can happen to everyone if you book car with them. I don’t believe I will get any answer from any of them because I haven’t got any answer for the last months.
