  My time being represented by this firm was nothing but unhappy. My experience of the attorney appointed by Charles Mendelow & Associates was that she was inexperienced, lazy, and always "too busy" to actually be of any help, with everything being done at the last minute - sometimes quite literally. Further, despite their fees being seemingly cheap on a Rands per hour basis, they were wildly expensive if what I was paying for was legal expertise and knowledge of which there seemed very little. For example, I had the honour of sitting in my attorney's office in a flat panic effectively dictating my own answering affidavit the day before it was due in. At the time I had very little experience dealing with legal firms and as such did not realise how badly I was being treated. Now a few years down the line I can say without a doubt that if I could go back in time, I would save my money and hire literally anyone else.

  Charles and his team have helped me a lot, He is from my experience the best in his field. I have had nothing but a good experience through and through. I highly recommend his services due to his attention and speciality, I have only found everything to be at ease after his service. Highly suggest to choose him over the rest.

  Charles is the King of mediation, definitely evade his services of you feel you have an insurmountable conflict.

  Charles was recommended to us by a divorce attorney / mediator that a trusted friend had used in the Western Cape, with very good results. However, this implicit trust was sorely disappointed. Charles bills according to two rates, one (very expensive) for legal services, and the other (much more reasonable, but still quite high) for mediation. We consulted him on a legal base for preparing an uncontested divorce, and were prepared to pay his high legal rates, because we trusted the recommendation. But in the conversation that followed, Charles ended up * taking slow, hand-written notes in a notebook * giving long-winded explanations * giving us book recommendations on legal principles and personal issues * asking personal questions that were focussed on the past, which only aggravated the division between the parties, instead of focussing on a constructive way forward. Had this been a mediation session, I might have accepted his approach and the negative outcome. But it was booked and billed as a consultation for legal services. More than R5100 later, we had made very little progress, reached no common ground, and had no legal understanding of the road ahead. To the contrary, we left the consultation more aggravated than when we arrived. He tried to salvage the situation by recommending that "high-class people" like ourselves should rather go for mediation (at his "much reduced" rate) - but mediation was something that my wife had specifically excluded from the very beginning, and thus his recommendation only served to frustrate her. From my perspective, his service was cumbersome, unfocussed on the client, and obscenely over-priced. I do not recommend him. We ended up re-starting the whole process with a different attorney. There were problems, too, but at least we were successful.

  Paid over R6000 for a legal opinion and never received it. Waste of time and money
